BOARDMEN, Ohio – The Marshall women's golf team sits in second place after the first day of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State. Junior Shelby Brauckmuller and sophomore Stormy Randazzo are both tied for fourth place with an even-par 72.
The Thundering Herd is eight shots back from the leader Youngstown State.
"We started out a little slow today knocking some rust off and getting back into tournament mode," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "Stormy (Randazzo) fought back after being 5-over with 12 holes to play and Shelby (Brauckmuller) was consistent once again with a steady round. We all had some good and bad shots but never gave up.
"We are still in this tournament and I know these girls will come out tomorrow ready to fight tooth and nail to win."
All of the Herd's golfers are ranked individually in the top-15 out of 53 total players. Senior Ylva Forslund and sophomore Kerri Parks are tied for 10th at plus-3 (75) and freshman Jackie Schmidt is just behind in 15th place at 4-over (76) in her first collegiate tournament.
Katlyn Shutt of Youngstown State leads the field after scoring a 4-under, 68.
The final round will begin Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
