Men’s Basketball Hosts Western Kentucky for First Home Game of 2019

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men's basketball returns to Huntington for its first home game in 33 days to take on Western Kentucky in conference action on Saturday.

HAVE YOU HERD
As a team the Herd turned the ball over just four times in the road win at Charlotte, the fewest in a game since 1983.
 
Freshman guard Taevion Kinsey was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week on Jan. 7.
 
Senior guard C.J. Burks scored 25 points at Charlotte to mark the 70th game of his career in double-figure scoring and his 26th game of 20 or more points.
 
Marshall is 8-0 when leading at halftime this season.
 
All nine of the Herd's wins have come when they win the scoring battle in the paint.
 
Herd has forced more turnovers than its opponent in 13 of the 15 games this season.
 
Elmore has led Marshall in points in 10 games this season and 12 times in assists.
 
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Western Kentucky comes into tonight's contest with an 8-7 record after dropping its game at Old Dominion.
 
The Hilltoppers defeated two top-25 teams this season, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
 
WKU averages 72.7 points per game, while giving up 71.9 to its opponents.
 
The Hilltoppers out rebound their opponents by two boards per contest, and hold
opponents to 35.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
 
WKU is second in the conference in shooting percentage from the field at 46 percent.

WHO TO KNOW
Taveion Hollingsworth leads the Hilltoppers with 15.5 points per game and is tied in average minutes played at 36.5. He has also taken (189) and made (82) the most shots on the team and is second on WKU with 43.
 
Charles Bassey averages 14.6 points per game for the Hilltoppers and has a conference leading 38 blocked shots. He leads the team in rebounds with 135. Bassey has won four C-USA Freshman of the Week awards and is projected as a lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft is he chooses to leave school.
 
Jared Savage is third on WKU in points with 14.2 per game and is the team's leading three-point shooter at 40.4 percent from beyond the arc. He also leads the Hilltoppers in free-throw percentage at 88.2.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Western Kentucky owns the all-time series 15-11 with Marshall taking the last meeting in the 2018 Conference USA Championship game.
