Bendziewicz wins 200 IM
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Marshall's swimming and diving team completed its first day of competition in the tri-meet with Liberty University and Campbell University after the first day of competition at Liberty Natatorium.
After 10 events, Liberty leads Marshall 139-46. Campbell has a 93.5 to 85.5 advantage on the Thundering Herd and the Flames are ahead of the Camels 147.0 to 36.0.
The Herd's divers set the tone for the evening. Marshall's Maddie Young scored a lifetime best with a score of 260.70 in the 3-meter dive, earning a second place finish. Sarah McGlumphy, another Herd diver, had a night to remember as well, scoring her second lifetime best (187.05).
Catherine Bendziewicz continued to produce for Marshall, earning a win in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.87.
"We struggled getting into the meet through the first half of the evening," said head coach Ian Walsh. "The team did a nice job responding after the diving break and put together some nice swims. Our divers did a great job and really set the tone leading into the second half of the meet. Maddie Young scored second with a lifetime best and Sarah McGlumphy was right up against her best as well."
"A lot of our swimmers came back after a tough first swim and really stepped up. Catherine put together a strong 200 IM and our 200 Free Relay was able to sneak past Campbell on the final leg with a great split by Darby Coles."
The meet will conclude Saturday, when the competition will begin at 11 a.m.
