Second all-academic honor for Diaz-Salcedo, first for Dolabella

IRVING, Texas – Marshall men's soccer senior Carlos Diaz-Salcedo and junior Pedro Dolabella were named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced Monday.

Diaz-Salcedo was honored in 2018 and this is the first for Dolabella. Both players have been major pieces to the Herd winning the Conference USA Regular Season title and being ranked in the top 25 for the past four weeks, with the highest ranking so far of 14th.

"Congratulations to Carlos and Pedro," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "Two outstanding young men. Carlos is a player I inherited when I took over the program, but he's fully grasped what we are trying to do here, and we couldn't have succeeded this season the way we have without him. Pedro has been terrific. I will tell his teammates one day of the sacrifices he's made so we can be a championship team. I will be grateful to him for those for the rest of my life. Pedro has also taken the lead for us on the 21st century model for men's soccer. A totally selfless act, for which he will not reap the rewards. Both guys are class acts, and deserving of this award."
Diaz-Salcedo is a two-time Conference USA Academic Medalist – overall grade point average of 3.75 or better – and is in line to make it three-in-a-row with a 3.82 GPA as an International Business and Finance major. The Barcelona, Spain native has been at Marshall all four of his collegiate seasons and has played in 64 contests, 58 starts, and 5,156 minutes on the pitch. He has played every minute of 43 matches in his career including 12 contests this season. Diaz-Salcedo is a major key to the success of the Marshall defense playing in the backfield. He has helped the Herd to its first Top 25 rankings in 18 years as well as holding opponents to just 15 goals in 18 matches. The senior captain has also helped lead Marshall to outscoring opponents 15-3 in C-USA matches. Diaz-Salcedo has been a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll since he was a freshman for maintaining a GPA of 3.00 or better.

Dolabella has started all 18 matches this season and is tied for second on the team with six goals. He also has four assists and is third on the team with 16 points. Dolabella is a two-time Conference USA Academic Medalist and two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He will look to make it three-for-three in both categories with a 3.86 GPA as an economics major. The Brasilia, Brazil native has logged 1,475 minutes on the pitch this season in the midfield. His height, game-knowledge and range has allowed him to be a presence all over the pitch. He played a season-high 98 minutes in the 0-0 draw at then No. 5 Charlotte. Dolabella scored a goal and an assist against UAB. He assisted on the game-winning goal against Butler. Dolabella has tallied 11 goals in his Marshall career and seven assists. He has appeared in 55 matches with 50 career starts and 4,135 minutes played.

The Marshall men's soccer team received a first round bye and awaits the winner of No. 4 seed Kentucky and No. 5 seed Florida Atlantic in the C-USA Tournament. The semi-final round match will be played Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m.
