Women’s Basketball Welcomes Morgan State to the Cam

Tipoff Thursday night at 5 p.m. as part of Marshall basketball doubleheader
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's basketball team is back on the home court Thursday against the Morgan State Bears. Tipoff in the Cam Henderson Center is set for 5 p.m.
The game with Morgan State will be part of a Marshall basketball doubleheader as the men's team takes on Howard at 8 p.m.
The Thundering Herd enters the game with a record of 3-1. The Bears come in at 2-3.

Marshall is coming off a 60-47 win at home Tuesday over the Coppin State Eagles. The Herd overcame rough first and third quarters offensively with a great defensive performance in the win. Junior Taylor Pearson led with a career-high 19 points and almost had her third career double-double with nine rebounds. Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks continues to lead on the glass as she collected 10 boards and was also close to a double-double with eight points. Junior Kristen Mayo scored in double figures and has done so in each game this season. Senior Ashley Saintigene swatted a season-high five shots and already has 15 blocks this year.
The Herd is shooting 42 percent from the floor and 34 percent from three. The defense has held opponents to hitting just 30.8 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from outside. Marshall has outrebounded the opposition 178-165.
Opponent
The Morgan State Bears are coming off a close loss on the road at Nebraska-Omaha, 70-64, on Sunday. This coming after a 78-55 loss at Nebraska the previous Thursday. The Bears have wins over Notre Dame of Maryland University (113-34) and Washington Adventist (84-52).
Chelsea Mitchell, who is third on the team in scoring with 12 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with eight per contest, had a double-double at Nebraska-Omaha with 20 points and 12 boards. Dahnye Redd is the leading scorer this season with 13.8 per game. Ashia McCalla is second with 12.8 and behind Mitchell is Jihayah Chavis at 10.6.
Mitchell also leads the Bears in steals with 18 in just five games. Chavis leads in assists with 18. Morgan State is shooting 39.2 percent from the floor and 26.2 percent from three. They have been allowing opponents to hit 41.3 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from three-point range. The Bears have been outrebounded this season but only by four boards as the team has been able to keep things close on the glass.

Marshall will head back out on the road for the second time this year. The Herd travels to Evansville, Ind., to take on the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. eastern.
