Marshall turns attention to Liberty Invite
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green's swimming and diving team defeated Marshall 178-122 Saturday afternoon at Cooper Pool in Bowling Green.
The Thundering Herd's Catherine Bendziewicz picked up victories in the 200 Free (1:53.62) and 200 Breast (2:23.52), while Nicole Rueff (2:05.91) and Darby Coles (24.24) nabbed back-to-back victories in the 200 Butterfly and 50 Free, respectively.
The 200 Free Relay team of Bendziewicz, Raeliegh Mooij, Alexis Wilhoit and Jordyn O'Dell also notched a winning mark of 1:37.06.

Credit to Bowling Green as they brought their best to the table and gave us some great competition. Today we saw some gutsy swims after a tough tri-meet last evening. The team has done an excellent job of taking each meet and learning from our racing/diving experiences, both good and bad. It was a back and forth meet throughout, but unfortunately we fell short on a few close races.
There were several great performances, but a few stand out to our staff when looking at this afternoon's session. Nicole (Rueff) had an exceptional performance in the 200 Butterfly, coming from behind in the last 50 to win in a season-best time. That swim was less than a half-second outside of our All-Time Top 10 list. Darby (Coles) had another win this weekend in the 50 Free and has been very consistent over the past two weeks in that event. Catherine (Bendziewicz) getting her hand to the wall first in her two individual events and nearly grabbing a third first-place finish in a tough double was exciting. Finishing the meet going 1-2 in the 200 Freestyle Relay showcased our depth in that area of the program.
On the diving side our two freshmen competed well and handled some new dives well. The scores may not have reflected this, but broadening their dive list leading into our mid-season invite is a big step toward their end-of-season goals. Last night, we also had Sarah (McGlumphy) score a lifetime-best on 3-meter which was very exciting.
(Assistants) Taylor (Counter), Megan (Siford) and I are looking forward to the Liberty Invite in two weeks as we fine-tune, leading into our final competition of the fall semester.
