Bendziewicz sets career-best time in 200 Meter Individual Medley

ATLANTA, Ga. – Herd swimming and diving's Catherine Bendziewicz, Heather Sigmon and Jordyn O'Dell all began competition at the U.S. Open in Atlanta, Ga., on Thursday.

"We had an excellent start to our meet today," Marshall head coach Ian Walsh said after action concluded today. "Catherine was our first swimmer of the day, and she did not disappoint. Although she missed the Olympic Trial standard, she swam a lifetime best by six seconds and placed 37th out of 176 athletes. Her final 50 meters were the 10th fastest out of the entire field. It's a great indication for where she is at for tomorrow's event, the 200 Freestyle."

Bendziewicz competed in the 200 Meter Individual Medley and finished with a time of 2:18.37.

"Jordyn has had a tough 36 hours battling a stomach virus that kept her bedridden up until this morning," Walsh said about O'Dell battling illness. "She had an inspiring performance this afternoon and was able to post a lifetime best performance in a time trial. Heather had a great race as well. There are a couple small adjustments that can be made for each of them that will make a significant difference for tomorrow's session."

O'Dell and Sigmon competed in 100 Meter Backstroke Trials in preparation for tomorrow's heats.

Along with O'Dell and Sigmon competing tomorrow, Bendziewicz will compete in the 200 Meter Freestyle on Friday.
