Tennis Drops 7-0 Decision at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 contest Sunday evening to the Virginia Tech Hokies at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The loss was the fourth straight for the Thundering Herd (2-5), while Virginia Tech (3-4) swept its doubleheader.

Marshall's doubles struggles continued, as the Herd dropped the doubles point for the fourth straight match and sixth time in its seven matches. Madi Ballow and Victoria Walter were defeated by Annie Clark and Emily Pence, 6-2, while Liz Stefancic and Matilde Mulatero lost to Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin, 6-3. Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych were tied in their match against Sarah Baron and Natalie Novotna, 4-4, before their match went abandoned after the Hokies clinched the point.

Mulatero dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Rita Pinto. Walter was defeated by Kozar in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Samantha Gillas clinched the match for the Hokies with a 6-4, 7-6(5) win over Ballow. Smith fell in a closely-contested match to Novotna, 7-5, 6-4. Stefancic and Dankanych each forced super tiebreaks in their matches at the Nos. 5 and 3 spots, respectively, but both were defeated in the 10-point tiebreaker.
