Tennis Begins Two-Match Weekend Friday Against Furman

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After a brief one-match road trip, the Marshall women's tennis team returns to the friendly confines of the Huntington Tennis Club Friday when it plays former Southern Conference foe Furman at 4 p.m.

HAVE YOU HERD?
Marshall is looking to break a four-match losing streak when it faces Furman. The Herd's last win was the second match of its doubleheader when it defeated Wright State.Â

Anna Smith and Victoria Walter lead the Thundering Herd with four singles wins apiece. Daniela Dankanych and Madi Ballow have three wins each for Marshall.

Marshall and Furman have not met since the Thundering Herd left the Southern Conference. The Thundering Herd won the last meeting between the teams in 1997.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: FURMAN
Furman's Southern Conference title defense is off to a strong start, as the Paladins have won seven of their first eight matches. Furman is also on a four-match win streak, with its lone loss of the season coming against Louisville.

The Paladins are 37-8 in singles play this season, with Katarina Kozarov leading the way at the top spot with a 6-0 record. Julia Adams and Madison Dillon each have undefeated singles records for Furman as well.

SERIES HISTORY
Furman has a 4-1 lead in the all-time series, though Marshall won the last match between the teams. This is the first match between the teams since 1997, when the Thundering Herd was still a member of the Southern Conference.
