FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Marshall women's golf team tees off for the first time in the 2019 spring season at the Sixth Annual Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville University.
The 54-round event begins Monday, Feb. 18, at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The participants will play two rounds on the first day and finish with one final round on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The course is a par-72 and 6,029 yards.
"I'm very excited to get things going this semester," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We have worked hard in the off season and I want to see that hard work pay off this spring."
Marshall is one of 16 teams competing in the event. The other programs are Cincinnati, Daytona State College, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, North Florida (No. 68), Sam Houston State, Samford, UAB, USC Upstate, WKU and Winthrop.
Playing for Marshall will be senior Ylva Forslund, junior Shelby Brauckmuller, sophomores Kerri Parks and Stormy Randazzo, and freshman Jackie Schmidt.
The Herd had a great fall season with three top two finishes including winning the William & Mary Invitational (Sept. 9-10). Brauckmuller also took home the top prize from William & Mary and finished tied for first with Parks at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational (Oct. 14-17).
At the end of the fall season, Marshall was ranked 98th in the country in the Golf Stat rankings and Brauckmuller was the 157th ranked player in the nation.
