ATLANTA – Marshall's Catherine Bendziewicz brought home a gold medal in the 200 IM for the third straight year to lead the Thundering Herd on the second day of competition at the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta.
Bendziewicz netted 20 team points by winning the event in a school-record 1:58.94, beating her 2017 mark (1:59.29). Caroline Wanner finished ninth (2:02.06) in the event and Maddie Schaefer placed 16th (2:06.06).
Darby Coles placed fourth in the 50 Freestyle (22.98), topping her all-time best set during Thursday morning's preliminaries. Hannah Robins (T-11th, 23.487), Raeleigh Mooij (14th, 23.62) and Regan Raines (16th, 23.70) rounded out Marshall's participation.
The Thundering Herd also took fourth in the 200 Free Relay (Bendziewicz, Robins, Mooij and Coles) in 1:32.31.
Maddie Young (10th, 262.20) and Sarah McGlumphy (15th, 199.85) competed in the 3-meter diving event.

"It was another strong session for the Herd. Our divers really set the tone, setting personal bests on 3-meter with Maddie Young's mark being the fourth-best in school history.
All of our 500 swimmers had really gutsy swims and improved their seed from the morning. Catherine was exceptional tonight, winning her third 200 IM title in a row and she broke the 23-second barrier for the first time in her leadoff leg of the 200 Free Relay. Caroline was right off her personal best in the 200 IM and won the consolation final.
Our 50 Freestyle was a big event for us as we scored 24 points. Darby breaking the 23-second barrier to place fourth was fun to watch. Our 200 Free Relay was strong and posted the fourth-fastest time in program history, but, as a group, there were some things we could've executed better.
Our staff is looking forward to tomorrow. There are a lot of opportunities to score for us and the team is excited to build upon tonight's success."
