Tennis Begins Season-Ending Road Swing at Liberty

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women's tennis team begins a two-match road trip to close the season Thursday afternoon when it travels to take on the Liberty Flames. First serve from the Cook Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.

Marshall defeated Charleston in its last match, 7-0. The duration of the match was just 95 minutes, marking the first time all season the Thundering Herd completed a match in less than two hours.

Madi Ballow reached 10 singles wins this spring with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Charleston's Regina Saucedo at the No. 5 spot. This is the second consecutive season that a Marshall freshman has reached 10 singles wins in a spring season, after Anna Smith accomplished the feat last year.

Smith tied her singles win mark from last spring with her team-leading 11th win of the season Tuesday.

Liz Stefancic is 7-2 in her last nine singles matches, including a straight-sets win Tuesday against Charleston.
Â
Smith and Daniela Dankanych improved to 6-5 this season as a doubles pair with their win over Charleston. The pairing is 5-1 in its last six completed matches.

Ballow and Stefancic are 5-2 in their last seven completed doubles matches as a pair.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: LIBERTY
Liberty enters Thursday's match with a 13-6 overall record and a 5-1 record in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Flames have won each of their last six matches, including a 4-2 win over William & Mary in their last match.

Kalani Soli leads Liberty with a 13-3 singles record this spring, while Anna Dollar is 12-3 for the Flames in singles play. Lara Soares and Maria Medina are 11-4 in doubles play, while Dollar and Ashley Bongart are 10-5.

The Herd closes its regular season Sunday at No. 32 Old Dominion, with first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
