FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Marshall women's golf team completed the first round of the Conference USA Championships on Monday, and sit in fifth overall out of 12 teams. Junior Shelby Brauckmuller is tied for fourth overall on the leaderboard.
"I was impressed with the way we played today," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "We kept things together and made putts when we needed to. I saw a lot of great shots today and it's fun to see all the hard work pay off for these ladies."
Brauckmuller scored a 2-under 70 on Monday and recorded five birdies. Sophomore Kerri Parks is next for the Herd after a 1-over 73 and is tied for 20th. Overall, Marshall's players recorded a total of 14 birdies for the day with each golfer scoring at least one.
The Herd's team score of 293 was just one stroke away from tying the program record low in the C-USA Championships. Marshall scored a 292 in the third round in 2015.
40th ranked Old Dominion and UTSA are tied after scoring a 6-under 282. Ana Gonzalez and Madison Kidd for UTSA both recorded an eagle on the 15th hole to help put them in a three-way tie for first with Sana Tufail of Old Dominion. Tufail also scored an eagle on the 15th hole. The trio shot a 3-under 69.
