Herd finishes in sixth after three-day event
Final Results
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore Kerri Parks finished in second place and was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team after the third and final round of the Conference USA Championships on Wednesday. The Marshall women's golf team ended the event in sixth place, hosted at Old Orange at the Verandah Club.
It was the best finish for the Thundering Herd in the C-USA Championship. The previous best for the Herd was seventh in 2007 and again in 2016.
"Kerri played awesome and was so consistent for us this year," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "The maturity I saw from her this week is amazing to see as a coach. Each player has contributed at some point during the season and helped put this program in the right direction it needs to go.
"Ylva (Forslund) has such a bright future and I'm glad I had the opportunity to coach her and watch her grow as well. These young ladies have definitely changed my life and hopefully I've changed theirs as well for the better."
Parks began the tournament tied for 20th after shooting a 1-over 73 in the first round on Monday. The sophomore jumped up to third on the leaderboard after tying a personal best, 5-under 67, in the second round on Tuesday. Parks finished out the Championships with an even-par 72 to stay ahead of Charlotte De Corte of Old Dominion by one stroke. Parks recorded 10 total birdies over the three rounds. Her second place finish was the highest by a Marshall golfer in the C-USA Championships, besting previous highest finish of tied for seventh by Korakot Simsiriwong (2011-15) in 2012.
Junior Shelby Brauckmuller improved by four strokes from round two to round three and finished tied for 25th.
Marshall set a program-best score of 586 through the first 36 holes. The Herd's overall score of 888 was also a team-best in the C-USA Championships with the previous best score coming in 2015 at 893.
The UTSA Roadrunners won the team competition after scoring a 7-under 281 in the third round to end the week with a 10-under 854. UTSA held off Charlotte and Old Dominion to claim the Championship. Ana Gonzalez of UTSA made it a clean sweep of awards for the Roadrunners as she led the field with a 9-under 207.
