Softball Falls to Louisville

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall softball team battled but fell late against the Louisville Cardinals at Dot Hicks Field, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon.

The Thundering Herd fall to 28-17 while the Cardinals improve to 32-15.
Â
Sophomore Aly Harrell and freshman Mya Stevenson both hit home runs. Harrell now has 12 and Stevenson has 10 for the year. Stevenson needs just one more to tie Harrell's program freshman record. Harrell also finished the game with two hits.
Â
Senior pitcher Abigail Tolbert went the distance against the Cardinals and struck out five in the loss.

The Herd got on the board first in the first inning when Harrell hit a two-run homer to center. Sophomore Rachel Rousseau was on base after getting hit by a pitch.
Â
The game was a defensive battle until Louisville tied the game in the top of the fifth. The Cardinals then took the lead in the top of the sixth off a solo home run, 3-2.

Stevenson tied the game with her two-run home run that also scored freshman Rachel Pennington.
Â
The Cardinals added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take back the lead. Marshall went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Marshall returns to action on the road against Middle Tennessee, Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. The Conference USA series begins with a Saturday doubleheader at 3 p.m. eastern.
