Junior finished regular season with career-high 11 wins
IRVING, Texas – Marshall softball junior pitcher Kailee Williamson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team, the league office announced Monday.
Â
It was the first all-academic team honor for Williamson.
Â
The Norco, Calif., native carries a 3.80 grade point average as an accounting major. She is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a three-time recipient of the Academic Medal for maintaining a GPA of 3.75 or better.
Â
This season, Williamson has stepped up more in the circle for the Herd. She finished the regular season with a career-high 11 wins, 3.06 ERA, 123.1 innings pitched and 85 strikeouts.
Â
Williamson had a great start to the 2019 season during the USD Tournament in San Diego, Calif. In her four appearances she pitched a total of 17 innings, allowed just nine hits, four unearned runs, 10 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. She earned her first career save that weekend with 2.1 innings of relief in the win over Portland State.
Â
The junior right-hander won five games this season while getting at least 10 runs of support from her offense including her final win of the regular season, a 10-0 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. She also pitched a five-inning, one-hitter at Charleston Southern.
Â
Williamson and the Herd are headed down to Birmingham, Ala., for the Conference USA Tournament. Marshall is No. 4 seed and will take on the winner of No. 5 Southern Miss and No. 8 UTSA, Wednesday at 5 p.m. central, 6 p.m. eastern.
