HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall men's soccer team shutout the South Carolina Gamecocks, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Hoops Family Field. It is the third-straight win for the Herd.

The Thundering Herd improves to 4-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in Conference USA play. South Carolina falls to 3-2-0 and 0-1-0 in conference.

"Our front five were doing really, really well and particularly as the game went on they were creating a lot of chances," Herd head coach Chris Grassie said. "You have to be quick, simple, and predictable when you are attacking so that everyone can coordinate and the guys did a tremendous job of that today."

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Marshall outshot the Gamecocks 7-3 and 3-0 in shots on goal. A red card was issued to South Carolina's Zach Kirkwood for fighting with two minutes and six seconds remaining in the first half. The card put the Gamecocks down a player for the rest of the match and the Herd took advantage.

Marshall immediately went on the attack in the second half and received its first goal of the day from freshman Milo Yosef in the 49th minute. After a South Carolina foul just a few yards outside of the 18-yard box, Yosef took the free kick and sent it across into the right corner for his second goal of the season.

Marshall extended the lead five minutes and 44 seconds later as sophomore Vinicius Fernandes sent a cross to the right that was headed by freshman Max Schneider to the extended foot of junior Pedro Dolabella. The touch passing led to the Herd's second goal and Dolabella's third of the season and eighth of his career.

The Marshall attack along with the Herd defense kept South Carolina off balance throughout the match. Redshirt senior keeper Paulo Pita did not face a single shot on goal. Marshall fired 22 total shots in the match to just four from the opposition. The Herd also totaled eight shots on goal with South Carolina junior keeper Buenyamin Yusufoglu recording six saves.

Marshall continues its homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m., as the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) comes to Hoops Family Field.
