First ever meeting

Marshall is off to its best start in seven years in head coach Chris Grassie's third season at the helm. The Herd has won three-straight, all at home, over Butler (2-1), East Tennessee State (2-1) and South Carolina (2-0). The most recent win over South Carolina was the Conference USA opener for Marshall and the team's second shutout of the season. The Herd also made it through the win with allowing just four shots and none on goal. Marshall fired 22 total shots including eight on goal. Freshman Milo Yosef got the Herd on the board first with a goal off a free kick in the 49th minute. Less than six minutes later, junior Pedro Dolabella extended the lead with a nice touch off some great passing.

Dolabella leads the team in scoring with three goals and seven total points. Junior Jamil Roberts and Yosef have two goals each. Senior Jonas Westmeyer, sophomore Jan-Erik Leinhos and freshman Max Schneider have one goal each. Marshall has outscored the opposition 10-3. Redshirt senior keeper Paulo Pita has been rock-steady in the net playing all 470 minutes this season. Pita has allowed just three goals, has a 0.57 goals against average, recorded 12 saves and has a .800 save percentage. Pita has two shutouts this year as well. Senior defender Illal Osmanu is the only other player who has played every minute this year.

Opponent
The Vaqueros began the 2019 season with a 2-1 win over Wofford, and a 2-0 victory over Stetson. UTRGV then fell 3-2 in double overtime to No. 15 UCF in Orlando. The Vaqueros finished 2018 with a 14-6 record, lost in the semi-finals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament and the program was picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll. Kyle Edwards leads the team in scoring with two goals, one assist and five total points. Four other players have scored one goal this year in William Akio, Angel Lopez, Dimitris Strantzalis and Lukas Moser. In the net, Andy Rios has played all 286 minutes, has allowed four goals, has a 1.26 goals against average, tallied 15 saves and sports a .789 save percentage.
