– The Marshall women's basketball team (5-7, 0-1) will travel to North Texas (7-6, 1-0) for a 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT contest in The Super Pit on Saturday.

Rice's women's basketball team used a dominating second quarter to pull away from visiting Marshall 81-43 Thursday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse in the Conference USA opener for both schools.
 
The Owls improved to 6-6 overall and 1-0 in Conference USA play, while the Thundering Herd dropped to 5-7 and 0-1 in the league.
 
Reigning Conference USA Player of the Year Erica Ogwumike led four players in double figures with a double-double effort of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sydne Wiggins registered 11 points, while Nancy Mulkey and Katelyn Crosthwait had 10 each. Jasmine Smith led the way in assists with four.
 
Marshall's Dazha Congleton (13 points) and Ashley Saintigene (10) both found their way into double figures and Princess Clemons posted a team-high six rebounds. Congleton also led with three steals.
 
Rice jumped out to a 20-11 lead after one quarter and took advantage of a struggling Marshall offensive effort in the second period (Herd was outscored 17-3) to take a 37-14 halftime advantage. The Owls netted 26 more in the third quarter and pulled away for the victory in the fourth.
 
Rice held significant edges in points off turnovers (17-5), points in the paint (52-10) and bench points (36-7).
 
Career-Highs
Dazha Congleton posted a career-high 13 points and seven free throws made Thursday at Rice.

The Thundering Herd has registered more steals than the opposition in four consecutive games.

Scouting the Mean Green
North Texas comes into Saturday's game sporting a 7-6 overall record. The Mean Green are led by Anisha George, who averages a double-double at 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Jazion Jackson dishes out 2.3 assists, while Destinee McDowell contributes 2.7 steals. Callie Owens is the top 3-point shooter, netting 34.7 percent from downtown.
 
North Texas was picked seventh in the league's preseason poll, but defeated WKU 61-54 at home on Thursday. The Lady Hilltoppers were picked third.
 
The Mean Green lead the league in rebounding offense (44.7), rebounding margin (+6.8), offensive rebounds (16.2) and offensive rebounding percentage (.400), but are last in 3-point percentage (24.6).
