HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Senior guard Jarrod West and junior guard Taevion Kinsey made history on Sunday in the Cam Henderson Center with each recording their 1,000th career point in the Marshall University men's basketball (4-0) 81-67 win over the Ohio Bobcats. Marshall is on a seven-game winning streak dating back to last season.

"After we got by the first half, we started making some shots," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the win. "That's the offensive end of it. Our three-point percentage needs to get up. We finished it well. Our defense keeps it there. When our shots start falling, we know we're going to win. Kudos to Coach Scott (Rigot) and Andrew (Taylor). Even though the stats don't add up, he (Taylor) is one of the reasons we won the game. Obinna (Anochili-Killen) started growing confident with his game. Goran came in and put in the work. Mikel with that dunk. I've sat on the NBA benches for years, and he had to bring it really quick. I haven't seen too many like that one."

Kinsey led all student-athletes in the contest with 28 points. The Columbus, Ohio, native made 10 of his 13 attempts from the field, went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and brought down six rebounds.

West added 14 points on a 50 percent shooting night from field, dished out a team-high six assists and tied for the game-high in steals with Andrew Taylor at three.

Senior forward Mikel Beyers round out a trio Herd student-athletes with 10 or more points with 13 making 4-of-6 on his field-goal attempts and going 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Taylor grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while tying Jannson Williams and Goran Miladinovic for the team-high in blocks with two.

MU started the game fast scoring the first four points of the game with a pair of Williams free throws and a layup from Kinsey. The Bobcats stormed back with an 8-0 run, led by two points from Jason Preston and six of Dwight Wilson's 24 points in the game, to lead 8-4 just over four minutes into the game.

The Herd did not take long to answer as West made a layup, Kinsey hit a pair of freebies and West drained a three to regain the lead, 11-8, two minutes later as Ohio saw its only lead of the contest disappear.

Marshall used a 14-2 run from 8:02 to 3:34 to take a 12-point lead, 31-19, its largest of the half, but the Bobcatsclosed the half on a 9-0 run to cut the Herd lead to 35-33 at the break.

Although Ohio closed down Marshall's lead at the end of the first half and kept it close in the first five minutes of the second period, MU used three runs of five or more points to regain a command on the game down the stretch. The Bobcats only had one run of more than three points in the final period of play.

The biggest moments of the game came from West and Kinsey in the second half. West joined the 1,000-point club on a jumper four minutes into the half when he scored his 11th point of the game.

Kinsey then followed him up when he hit 26 points in the game and reached the 1,000-point plateau fittingly on a dunk with 7:09 remaining in the contest.

The Ohio offense struggled from the field down the stretch, making just one of its last seven attempts against the Herd defense as the MU offense made 10 of its last 11 attempts from the field.
