FRISCO, Texas – The sixth-seeded Marshall men's basketball team (17-15) survived a late comeback from the No. 11 UTEP Miners by a final score of 86-78 on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2020 Air Force Reserve C-USA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star. The Herd went 24-of-29 from the free-throw line.
"Good ball game. We knew it was going to be a good game," Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the win. "UTEP is a talented team and well-coached. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We made some mistakes at the end, but it was a good game. It's tournament time so we just have to make sure to get to the next one against a really good tough LA Tech team."
Taveion Kinsey led all student-athletes with 26 points on a 10-for-19 shooting night as he made 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. The sophomore guard also grabbed a team-best eight boards and had a game-high three steals.
