HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Marshall's women's basketball team will host WKU Thursday at 6 p.m. ET inside the Cam Henderson Center before traveling to Bowling Green for a 3 p.m. ET/2 CT tip against the Lady Toppers on Sunday.

The Thundering Herd is 2-4 and 1-3 in Conference USA, while WKU comes in at 2-6 and 1-1 in the league. The Tops had their first C-USA series against Charlotte postponed.

Both of this weekend's games will be found on ESPN+. Marshall's Jake Griffith will have the call on Thursday.

Last Time Out: Marshall 61, Louisiana Tech 57 (1/2/21)
The Charlotte women's basketball team overcame a 15-point second-quarter deficit and took down visiting Marshall 65-56 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Halton Arena.

Saturday's result is the Thundering Herd's second tough overtime loss in as many weekends. Marshall dropped a 61-51 decision at home to Louisiana Tech last Friday.

The 49ers received a career-high 26 points from Jada McMillian on 10-for-17 shooting and Ocatvia Jett-Wilson added 17, while struggling to a 5-for-19 effort from the floor. Dara Pearson also registered a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Molina Williams also added a career-high 11 rebounds off the bench, in extended minutes. Charlotte played without the services of 6'3" Jazmin Harris, who suffered an injury in Friday's first half.

Marshall got double-double efforts from Alexis Johnson (11 points, 14 rebounds) and CC Mays (11 points, 13 rebounds), while Savannah Wheeler also netted 11 points and Kennedi Colclough chipped in 10. Wheeler and Mays contributed three assists apiece.

Both teams struggled to find the range from deep Saturday. Marshall made four of its 22 shots (18.2 percent) to Charlotte's 14.3 percent (3-for-21). However, the host 49ers (28) more than doubled the visitors' 13 trips to the free throw line and converted 22 times.

The Thundering Herd, who had just eight available players, were down to the minimum of five after Mays, Paige Shy and Mahogany Matthews all fouled out in overtime.

Marshall, who led the contest for 35 minutes and three seconds, built a 15-point lead twice in the second quarter. The last time came when Colclough hit a jumper at the 6:52 mark to put the Herd ahead 26-11.

The Herd led 31-23 at the half.

The fourth quarter was where Charlotte really made its move, outscoring the visitors 15-8. Once Jett-Wilson broke a 44-all tie with a free throw at the 3:06 mark, the lead seesawed back and forth until McMillian went 1-for-2 at the free throw line with 10 seconds left.

Marshall's Taylor Pearson had a chance to win the game in regulation, but had her layup attempt was blocked by Jett-Wilson. Jett-Wilson then had a shot to win it herself, but missed a layup as well and Marshall's Mays rebounded to send the game to the extra session.

Jett-Wilson then scored the 49ers' first seven points in overtime and Marshall never got within one possession down the stretch.

"I think the biggest thing we need to take away is we need to stop fouling so much," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "We did much better today, we didn't waste as many fouls today as we did last night. We do need to stop fouling so much but eventually we will get back to a full squad and that will alleviate some of that (players getting in to foul trouble)."

"We have to have our team. We cannot continue to play conference games that mean a lot without our team. I thought it was important that we try to play games and now we have played a quarter of our season without our full roster. But, we need to get back to practice and we need to have everybody here."

The Series
This is the 16th meeting between the two schools, with Tops holding a 14-1 lead. WKU won the last meeting by the score of 79-65 in Bowling Green on February 20 last season. In that game, WKU nearly put every starter in double figures, led by Raneem Elgedawy's double-double effort of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Whitney Creech was the team's leading scorer with 19, followed by 11 from Meral Abdelgawad and 10 by Dee Givens. Creech led the way with four assists.

Pearson paced Marshall with a career-high 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting. She was joined in double digits by Wheeler with 19. Princess Clemons was the team's top rebounder with six to go with her three assists and three steals.

Scouting WKU
On the season, Fatou Pouye averages a team-high 13 points, while Meral Abdelgawad pulls down nine caroms per contest. Hope Sivori's 3.9 assists per game leads the way, as does Selma Kulo's 1.1 steals. Ally Collett has a team-high 14 3-pointers and her 84.6 percent clip (third-highest in C-USA) from the free throw line is also the best on the Tops. Pouye's .537 field goal percentage stands as the league's fourth-best mark.

WKU is third in the league in scoring defense (64.3 per game), but last in turnover margin (-4.0), assist-to-turnover ratio (0.56) and defensive rebounding percentage (0.623).
