BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshall University men's basketball team (7-3, 1-2 C-USA) kept it close on the road, but ultimately fell to Western Kentucky(10-4. 3-2 C-USA), 81-73, on Friday at E.A. Diddle Arena.

"Looking at the first half, maybe we were fouling too much," Marshall head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss. "In the second half, we tried to clean it up. I don't know if it was our style or their style. We just have to look and see if we made silly reaches. Jarrod didn't really play to Jarrod's standards for good reasons. I hope it's us that's correctable."

Jannson Williams led Marshall with 19 points on a 7-for-11 night from field, making 5-of-7 from three-point range. The redshirt senior added three rebounds, a pair of blocks and two steals to his stat line.

Taevion Kinsey added 17 points, while grabbing five rebounds, four on the offensive end, in the contest.

Andrew Taylor fell one point and one assist shy of back-to-back double-doubles with nine points and a game-high nine assists. He added a team-high seven rebounds to his stat line.

Both teams struggled on the offensive end as neither team scored until Charles Bassey made the first basket of the game on a jumper for WKU at the 2:09. Marshall didn't wait long to answer as Kinsey made a layup and West nailed a triple in succession to put the Herd up 5-2.

The two programs traded baskets until the Hilltoppers went on a 16-2 run and led MU, 30-20, with 6:27 left in the opening half.

However, a Darius George dunk, a Jannson Williams three and a Kinsey layup, pulled Marshall back within three, 30-27, two minutes later.

A Josh Anderson 7-0 run, propelled WKU over MU into the break as the home side scored 16 of the final 23 points of the half to lead the Herd 46-34 at halftime.

The Green and White came out and made the first two baskets of the second half on a Williams layup and a Kinsey jumper. The two sides then traded points for the next four minutes, until a Kinsey layup and a Mikel Beyers dunk pulled the Herd within five, 54-49, with 13:54 left in the game.

The Hilltoppers answered with a 6-0 run to extend its lead back to double-digits, 60-49, just over a minute later.

Marshall wasn't ready to quit yet as it utilized a 10-0 run with eight points from Williams and a Kinsey layup to pull within one, 60-59, with 10 minutes remaining.

Although the teams nearly traded points for the entirety of the final 10 minutes, a 6-0 and 4-0 run by WKU down the stretch proved to be the difference as the Herd fell in Bowling Green.

The Hilltoppers made 19 of its 21 attempts from the free-throw line and Bassey collected his conference best ninth double-double of the season with 21 points and 19 rebounds.
