Liberty Holds 112-74 Lead over Herd

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. — The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team trails 112-74 to the Liberty Flames after day one in the first meet of the 2021-22 season.

Sophomore Klava Katayama placed first in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.12)

Freshman Gabrielle Ivey claimed her first collegiate win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.81).

Freshman Federica Savoia took second place in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:11.43).

Senior Regan Raines snagged second place in the 50-yard Freestyle (24.37)

Sophomore Alaina Laster came in second place in the 3 meter diving competition (245.18)

Sophomore Madeline Hart placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:54.33)

Sophomore Paige Blanton placed second in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:21.00).

Freshman Leigh Lopez-Silvers took second place in the 200-yard Butterfly (2:06.23)

Marshall took second place in both relay races. In the 200-yard medley relay, senior Raeleigh Mooji, sophomore Paige Banton, Lopez and Katayama finished with a final time of 1:45.00. Katayama, Ivey, Raines and sophomore Claire Kenney finished the 400-yard freestyle with a time of (3:30.72)

"The staff was really pleased with our first session against a strong Liberty squad," Herd head coach Ian Walsh said. "I thought the team really embraced the idea of confidence and competing for each other today. We have a lot of things we can adjust and improve upon for tomorrow. We're looking forward to another great session tomorrow morning."
