Women’s Golf Shows Great Improvement on Final Day at Olde Stone

Rauch moves up 22 places on leaderboard after third round

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshall women's golf team improved in the final round of the Olde Stone Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Junior Makena Rauch led the way jumping up 22 places on the leaderboard.
As a team, the Herd improved its score by 19 strokes from the second to the third round.
The Thundering Herd finished 14th in a field that included 10 teams ranked in the GolfStat Top 100, and three programs in the Top 50. Marshall finishes the fall 2021 season Nov. 1-2 at the Grandover Invitational, hosted by UNC Greensboro.
"Proud of the fight I saw today out of everyone," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "Makena played like she knows how to so that was fun to watch. Saw lots of potential out of each player and excited to finish the fall season strong next week at UNCG."
Rauch finished the third round with an even par 72, an improvement of 11 strokes from the second round. She totaled three birdies in the last round and finished tied for 34th. Graduate student Stormy Randazzo displayed a steady drop in her score through each round, improving by four strokes in the second round and another two strokes lower in the third.
Freshman Emily McLatchey also showed improvement with each round. Dropping her score by five strokes in the second and a one-stroke improvement in the third. Senior Torren Kalaskey improved her score by five strokes in the third round and fellow senior Jackie Schmidt dropped her score by seven strokes in the final round.
No. 31 Louisville, one of the co-hosts of the tournament, claimed the team prize with a seven stroke lead over runner-up North Texas. Tiffany Arafi of Coastal Carolina, the 25th-ranked player in the country, finished atop the field after scoring a 3-under, 213. She finished four strokes ahead of Audrey Tan of North Texas, who is the 66th-ranked player in the nation.
