RADFORD, Va.
– The Marshall women's basketball team put four players in double figures and hit clutch free throws down the stretch to hang on for a 68-64 win at Radford on Sunday afternoon at the Dedmon Center.

MU improved to 2-0 on the season, while Radford dropped to 0-2.

Kennedi Colclough led all scorers with 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting to go with a team-high six rebounds, a mark that was also equaled by Lorelei Roper and CC Mays. Mays put up 10 points herself and was joined in double digits by Savannah Wheeler and Aaliyah Dunham, who had 13 points apiece. Dunham also had a game-high six steals and four assists.

Radford was led by 14 points from Ashley Tudor and 13 by Kyanna Morgan, who also had a team-high seven boards.

The Thundering Herd controlled the early stages of the game, building a 12-point advantage on a Wheeler triple to give the visitors a 26-14 lead at the 8:53 mark of the second quarter. The Highlanders gradually worked the game back into single digits and cut the margin to five (37-32) on a short Morgan jumper just before the half.

The home team had a big third quarter, outscoring Marshall 20-11, and held a six-point lead (52-46) on two Tudor free throws in the stanza's final minute.

Radford was up 55-50 with 7:49 remaining, but Marshall used a Colclough layup, four points by Alexis Johnson and another basket by Mays to take a 58-55 lead with 4:56 left.

Johnson and Colclough had the team's last two field goals and the visitors made seven of nine free throws down the stretch to keep Radford at bay over the balance of the contest.

The Thundering Herd came up big in second chance points (18-2), due in large part to a 14-6 edge over Radford in offensive rebounds.

Marshall also led 27-16 in points off turnovers and was in front on the scoreboard for more than 27 minutes of Sunday's action.

"That was a very hard-fought road win," said Marshall head coach Tony Kemper. "I told our team that this was going to be like a Conference USA matchup. We played well early and (Radford) counterpunched physically, executed well and got the ball where they wanted it.

"When (Radford) made a 3-pointer, this was as loud a gym as I've heard in quite some time. I thought we calmed ourselves after being out of sorts a little in the third quarter, but that's the way basketball is. To be able to level off and find a way to win was great."

MU will be back in action Friday against Morehead State at 6 p.m. inside the Cam Henderson Center.
