HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Thundering Herd men's basketball team (2-1) rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit, but came up short in a 67-65 loss to the Campbell Fighting Camels (3-1) on Thursday night in the Cam Henderson Center.

"They are a very good ball club that plays hard," Marshall men's basketball coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss. "They're rough and run their offense through. We got some work to do and figure out where to go for shots."

Senior Darius George poured in a career-high 24 points on an 8-for-13 night from the field and went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. The forward finished tied for the team lead with eight rebounds along with sophomore Obinna Anochili-Killen

Anochili-Killen scored 13 points to go with those eight boards and rejected three shots.

Senior Taveion Kinsey and redshirt junior Andrew Taylor tallied 10 points each. Taylor added a team-high five assists and three steals to his stat line.

The Fighting Camels were led by Cedric Henderson with 21 points as Ricky Clemons grabbed eight rebounds and Jesus Carralero dished out eight assists.

The Herd trailed by 11, 43-32, with 14:43 on the clock.

MU used a pair of 6-0 runs and an 8-0 advantage, but Campbell answered with runs of its own to eventually lead by eight, 64-56, with 3:48 remaining.

On the Herd's next possession, Taylor made a layup and George followed with a lay-in of his own to cut the deficit to four. Anochili-Killen came up with a block and rebound at the defensive end and followed with a three to cut the Campbell lead to 64-63 with 77 ticks left.

After another stop on defense, the Lagos, Nigeria, native put back a Taylor miss with a dunk to give MU its first lead, 65-64, since George made the first shot of the game at the 19:18 mark of the first half.

However, Campbell went right back in front on a Clemons layup with 25 seconds left.

Marshall had a chance to pull ahead on the ensuing possession but a loose ball was ruled to have gone out of bounds off the Thundering Herd following an officials' review.

Messiah Thompson then made one of two free throws to put the Camels up two with six seconds left. Mikel Beyers rebounded the missed second shot and fired a long outlet pass to George, who misfired on a game-winning triple from the left wing as time expired.

NOTES
Kinsey reached double-figure scoring for the 37th consecutive game.

Marshall has won the rebounding battle in its first three games of the season.

George's 24 points eclipsed his previous career-high of 19 set in the Cleveland Classic against Duquesne on Dec. 29, 2019.

Anochili-Killen and Kinsey have reached double-figure scoring in each of the first three games.
