TOLEDO, Ohio – The Marshall University men's basketball team (7-6) dropped its final non-conference game of the season, 95-63, on the road to the Toledo Rockets (8-3) on Tuesday night.
"Obviously, I'm upset," Thundering Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the loss. "I'm upset with all of us, myself, the staff and the team. We're not a very good ball club right now."
Junior Taevion Kinsey led MU with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the loss. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Taylor scored 13 points to go with a team-high three steals.
Toledo guard Ryan Rollins led all players with 23 points. He was one of six Rockets to score 10 or more points.
The Rockets started the contest on a 16-2 run in the first three-and-a-half minutes with the Herd's two points coming on a Kinsey jumper.
After the two sides traded runs, Marshall executed a 12-4 advantage, capped off by a three-point basket by Taylor. The deficit was cut to eight, 29-21, with 8:12 left in opening stanza.
The Herd struggled offensively in the final eight minutes of the half as Toledo outscored it 25-10 down the stretch. MU trailed 54-31 at halftime.
After missing the first half, freshman Obinna Anochili-Killen came off the bench in the second half and tallied eight points, grabbed three rebounds and rejected five shots in 17 minutes of action.
Marshall had a pair of 7-0 runs in the final 20 minutes, but it was unable to make a dent into Toledo's lead as it fell on the road.
