Marshall split the two-match series with the Charlotte 49ers, taking the Sunday match 3-1 and then losing 3-1 on Monday. In the Sunday victory, Macy McElhaney had a great home debut in front of the Cam Henderson Center crowd as the former WVU Mountaineer recorded 15 kills, hit at a .500 clip and had seven total blocks. Ciara Debell led the way on offense with 16 kills and added 15 digs. Sydney Lostumo set a career-high with 47 assists and had two block assists. Marshall as a team totaled 11 blocks. The win was the 20th for coach Aganus in her career.

Charlotte returned the favor on Monday taking command through the first two sets. Marshall fired back in the third, 25-12, as Destiny Leon led the way with six of her 10 kills in the period. The Herd totaled another double-digit block day with 14, including seven in the second set despite falling 25-19 in the frame. Leon had nine total blocks (one solo and eight assists), McElhaney added six (three solo, three assists), Debell had five (all assists) and Olivia Fogo had four (all assists).

Debell leads the Herd with 39 kills, while McElhaney is second with 34. Leon (27) and freshman Anna Calcagno (26) both have over 20 kills to begin the season. Lostumo is the team leader with 128 assists and four aces. On defense, junior Sarah Schank leads Marshall in digs with 76. The Herd is already averaging 10 total blocks a match with 32 in three matches, and an average of 2.46 per set. Leon leads a trio of players already in double-figures this year with 18 total blocks. McElhaney and Debell are next with 15 and 10, respectively.

Marshall and Xavier have already met once this season back on Jan. 31. In the season-opener for the Herd, Marshall rallied for the comeback-victory, 3-2. The Herd trailed 2-1 after the third set, but turned up the intensity in the fourth and fifth sets. Debell had six kills in the fourth set alone, and Schank set a program record with 40 digs, recording 11 in the second set and then 10 each in the third and fourth sets.

Xavier split a two-game series with Cincinnati falling in the first, 3-1, and then taking the next one, 3-1. MaryAnn O'Toole leads the Musketeers with 47 kills and Delaney Hogan is right behind with 41. Carrigan O'Reilly leads in assists with 179 and is also tops with four service aces. On defense, Alyssa Overbeck leads the team with 86 digs. Xavier is tough at the net with 78 total blocks, an average of 2.82 per set which is good for 16th in the NCAA. The Musketeers feature four players with 10 or more blocks in Ellie Chaffee (17), Hogan (15), O'Reilly (12) and Jayda Carlton (10).
