Catlettsburg, Kentucky native honored

DALLAS – Marshall's Savannah Wheeler was named to Conference USA's Second Team, the league office announced Monday morning.

Wheeler, a 5'6" sophomore guard from Catlettsburg, Kentucky, is Marshall's leading scorer at 17.0 points per game, to go with her team-high 33 3-pointers. She finished the regular season as the conference's sixth-leading scorer and was second in free throw percentage (85.1), actually leading C-USA in the latter discipline in league-only tilts (87.5 percent).

Last season, Wheeler was named to the league's All-Freshman Team after averaging 13.4 points per contest.

The Thundering Herd will be the East Division's fifth seed in this week's Conference USA Tournament.

Marshall (8-10 overall, 7-9 Conference USA) will play Wednesday in first round action against Louisiana Tech (13-9, 8-8), the West Division's fourth seed. The game will be carried on ESPN+ and radio coverage will be provided by WMUL, both locally on 88.1 FM and online on Stream 1.

The two teams met in Huntington to start league play on January 1 and 2, with the Lady Techsters grabbing a 61-51 overtime victory before Marshall rebounded with a 61-57 triumph the following day.

This will be the first time the two have faced each other in the C-USA Tournament. Tech holds a 5-4 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.

The winner will meet Middle Tennessee (14-7, 12-4) in Thursday's quarterfinal round, a game that will also be played at 3 p.m. ET (2CT). Marshall enters the tournament after gaining a road split with the Blue Raiders on Thursday (72-49 win) and Friday (61-54 loss).
