Second all-academic honor for senior golfer

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women's golf senior Kerri Parks was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team for the second time, the league office announced on Friday. Parks was honored the first time in 2019. No all-academic team was selected in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Kerri has been consistent for us on the course but especially in the classroom," Herd head coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "She holds herself to a high standard and I'm amazed by her hard work every year. She deserves this award and every other as well. So proud of her!"

"I would like to say how much of an honor it is to be recognized for a second time," Parks said. "My hard work in the classroom is paying off and I hope it will continue as I go to pharmacy school next year."

Parks has been a star on the course and in the classroom since she came to Huntington as a freshman in 2017. The Flushing, Mich., native is a three-time member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll as well as a three-time recipient of the Academic Medal for a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better. Parks is a chemical sciences major and sports a 3.85 GPA. The senior has been named a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar athlete and won an award through the Marshall Chemistry department for Outstanding Inorganic Chemist for the 2020-21 school year.

On the course, Parks leads Marshall this season with a stroke average of 76.00 and has been the top finisher for the Herd in three of the team's four events. Her best finish of the season so far was tied for third at the UAB Spring Invite. Parks scored a season-best 1-under 71 in the first round of the River Landing Classic.

Throughout her career, Parks has competed in 30-of-31 events and has finished in the top 10 nine times. She finished the 2019 Conference USA Championships as the runner-up and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She was honored as the 2018 Golf Association of Michigan Women's Player of the Year. In the summer of 2020, Parks won the 97th West Virginia Amateur Championship finishing with a 3-under 207 and a 15-stroke lead after the three rounds.

Parks and her teammates are headed for the 2021 Conference USA Championships, April 19-21, in Dade City, Fla.
