BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 12th-ranked Marshall men's soccer team hits the road for another league match against the UAB Blazers. Kickoff from BBVA Field is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
The Thundering Herd enters the match at 7-2-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Conference USA. The Blazers come in at 3-10-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.

Marshall moved up one spot in the NCAA/United Soccer Coaches' Poll on Tuesday following the 1-0 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday. Six of the Herd's seven wins this season have been shutouts. Against the Owls, Marshall outshot FAU 23-4 and 10-0 on goal. Sophomore Joao Souza scored the eventual game-winner in the 41st minute. Junior goalkeeper Oliver Semmle was kept clean by the back end with junior Nathan Dossantos and redshirt junior Collin Mocyunas in the center with junior Jan-Erik Leinhos and sophomore Gabriel Alves on the outside.
Senior Jamil Roberts assisted on the goal against the Owls to record his team-leading fourth of the season and 19th of his career. Roberts is now second all-time in program history in assists moving ahead of Ryan LaPointe (1989-93).
Junior Vitor Dias remains the scoring leader for Marshall, and the conference, with six goals and 15 points. Versus the Owls, Souza became the 11th different player to score a goal this season for the Herd.
Semmle has played 995 minutes in the net allowing five goals and has 11 saves. He sports a 0.45 goals against average which leads the conference and is 14th in the NCAA. Semmle is 6-2-2 in his first season in a Marshall kit.
The Herd still retains a massive lead in total shots (203-56), shots on goal (91-17) and goals scored (21-6) over its competition.
This will be the final road match of the regular season for Marshall. The Herd finishes the regular season on Sunday, April 18 at 2 p.m. against No. 14 Charlotte. Marshall leads the league standings with 13 points and the 49ers are right behind with 12.
The Opponent
The Blazers managed to play seven matches this past fall and went 1-6 over those matches. UAB got back into action on Feb. 20 with a 2-0 loss at North Carolina State. The Blazers began C-USA play with a 1-1 draw against Old Dominion, then fell at Charlotte (3-0) and FIU (4-0), before bouncing back with 1-0 overtime victory over then No. 18 Kentucky. However, UAB lost 6-0 in its last contest at South Carolina on Saturday.
The Blazers have been outscored 36-9 this season. Joseph Buete leads with two goals and four points. Seven other players have one goal each, while four players have one assist each.
UAb has used three players in goal this season, however the bulk of the time has been split between Caelan Whitehead and Seth Torman. Whitehead has played the majority of the minutes with just over 701, has allowed 25 goals, made 36 saves and has a 3.21 goals against average. Torman has played 535 minutes with nine goals allowed, 16 saves and a 1.51 goals against average.
Saturday's match against the Herd is Senior Day for the Blazers. UAB finishes the regular season at Florida Atlantic on Saturday, April 17.
