Herd to play Louisiana Tech in first round of C-USA Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Marshall softball team was honored with three players on All-Conference USA teams, the league office announced on Tuesday. Seniors Aly Harrell and Saige Pye were named to the First Team and junior Mya Stevenson was named to the Second Team.

Harrell was honored for the third time on an all-conference squad. Stevenson received her second all-conference honor and Pye was named for the first time as no postseason awards were awarded in 2020.

Harrell has been at the top of the charts for the Herd and in conference in 2021. The Gahanna, Ohio native is batting .400, slugging .847 and sports a .523 on base percentage. In the shortened season, Harrell has collected 34 hits, scored 24 runs, hit eight doubles, 10 home runs, driven in 27 runs, has 17 walks and five hit-by-pitches. In conference play Harrell is batting .392 and slugging .863 with six homers and six doubles. The senior slugger has reached base safely at least once in the last 17 games. She has nine games with two or more hits including a 4-of-5 performance against Florida Atlantic when Harrell came through with a walkoff double in the bottom of the ninth. She is second all-time in program history with 40 career home runs and first in on base percentage (.547).

Pye has been a terror at the plate since joining the Herd in 2020. Last season Pye hit .463 with eight home runs and slugged .863. This season, the Stockton, Calif., native is batting .388 with 31 hits, six home runs and is slugging .675. Pye has been on a roll through conference action with a .475 average, slugging .875 with four home runs in just 11 games. She has a hit in all 11 league games and has reached base safely in the last 16 contests. Pye drove in nine runs in the Florida Atlantic series. She tied a team record with three doubles in game three of the weekend, including the game-tying 2-run double in the bottom of the seventh. Pye also broke up a no-hitter in the series finale at Charlotte with a 2-run home run in the sixth.

Stevenson struggled through the beginning of the season, but once the Herd got into league play, the junior slugger has been back on track hitting .385 over the last 16 games with seven doubles and three homers. She has reached base safely at least once in each of the last 11 games. The Mesquite, Texas native ripped off six doubles in the Herd's series win at FIU. She is third all-time in career home runs with 38 and became the 13th member of the 100 RBI Club at Marshall this season. Stevenson leads the team in runs scored with 25. She adds 27 hits, eight doubles, six home runs and is slugging .570. In 2020, Stevenson was tied for the NCAA lead with 12 home runs after leading the nation in homers by a freshman with 20 in 2019.

Marshall is the No. 7 seed in the Conference USA Tournament and play on Wednesday against No. 6 seed Louisiana Tech at 3:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. CT.
