Men’s Soccer Honored with Coaching Staff of the Year

Led Herd to 2020 College Cup National Title
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Champion Marshall men's soccer team received another honor, recognized as the United Soccer Coaches National Coaching Staff of the Year, the organization announced this week.
On May 13, the Herd's staff was named the Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year for the second year in-a-row.
Head coach Chris Grassie along with assistant coaches Petsa Ivanovic, Josh Faga and Kyle Sniatecki, graduate assistant Anthony Uriarte, strength and conditioning coach Sam Black and athletic trainer Kerri Francis have done an amazing job with the Herd and brought and exciting style of play to Huntington.
In four seasons, coach Grassie and his crew have taken Marshall to back-to-back Conference USA Championship Titles, trips to the NCAA Tournament, and earned the 2020 College Cup National Championship after an incredible run through the postseason. The Herd has also consistently been ranked in the top 25, with a few times up in the top 10, and of course ended the year as No. 1 overall.
Over the last two years, Marshall is a combined 29-5-6 which is good for an .800 winning percentage. The Herd has been dominant on the field this season leading the NCAA in shutouts with 11. The most recent being the Title win over No. 3 Indiana, 1-0. It was Marshall's third clean sheet of the tournament also shutting down No. 8 Georgetown, 1-0, in the Elite 8 and blanking No. 16 North Carolina, 1-0, in the Final Four.
Marshall was a powerhouse on the pitch this season with a stifling defense and an attacking offense. The Herd outscored its opponents 30-8, and outshot the competition 272-118 and 120-34 on goal over 18 matches.
This season, coach Grassie was named Conference USA Coach of the Year for the second consecutive time and the team piled up numerous postseason awards yet again.
