2021 Fall Schedule

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The defending 2020 National Champions, and back-to-back Conference USA Champs, Marshall men's soccer announced its 2021 fall schedule on Thursday. The lineup features eight home matches at Hoops Family Field.

For the first time season tickets for both men's and women's soccer can be purchased. Season ticket information as well as a link for online purchasing can be found by clicking here.

The fall 2021 schedule features a very competitive slate with six teams that played in the 2020 NCAA Tournament, five teams that were featured in the final top 25 rankings and three conference champions. The combined record from the 2020-21 season of Marshall's opponents is 77-64-27 (.539).

The Herd's eight home opponents feature a great list of Conference USA foes and non-conference action. Marshall takes on brand new C-USA men's soccer member Coastal Carolina in the home-opener on Sept. 4. The Chanticleers finished 2020-21 with a 9-5-2 record, won the Sun Belt title and then lost to No. 4 Wake Forest in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Coastal was ranked No. 24 in the final poll.

Marshall also hosts West Virginia (Sept. 17), Akron (Sept. 21), Kentucky (Sept. 25), Butler (Sept. 29), UAB (Oct. 16), Wright State (Oct. 19) and South Carolina (Oct. 30). The Kentucky Wildcats won 12 matches last season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, ending the year with a final ranking of No. 16. The Herd and the Mountaineers will play one last time as non-conference rivals before WVU joins C-USA in men's soccer for the 2022 season. All home matches are currently set for 7 p.m. start times.

The Herd will begin the 2021 season on the road at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. Marshall takes on James Madison first on Aug. 26 and then will play against Virginia Tech on Aug. 29. The JMU Dukes finished 2020-21 with a record of 5-1-3, won the Colonial Athletic Association Championship and then lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 18 UCF. JMU's final ranking last season was No. 21. The Virginia Tech Hokies went 7-6-4 last year and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 6 Seton Hall on penalty kicks. The Hokies ended the season ranked No. 15.

Marshall's other road opponents are East Tennessee State (Sept. 7), Bowling Green (Sept. 11), Old Dominion (Oct. 3), Florida Atlantic (Oct. 9), Charlotte (Oct. 23) and FIU (Nov. 5) to end the regular season. The BGSU Falcons won the Mid-American Conference last year before falling to Monmouth in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Herd and the Charlotte 49ers have become an intense rivalry as Marshall has defeated the 49ers for each of the last two league titles. Charlotte ended last season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to No. 16 UNC on penalty kicks. The 49ers were ranked No. 20 in the final poll.
