Dias Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

Kansas City, Mo. – Top-ranked Marshall men's soccer senior midfielder Vitor Dias was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday. Dias and the Herd begin the 2021 season Thursday night at No. 21 James Madison. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Dias was named a semifinalist this past spring after an incredible season that helped lead the Thundering Herd to a National Championship. Dias is the only member of a Conference USA school named to the list.

The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the nation's National Player of the Year. Division I coaches who are members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services program vote for the award.

Fifteen players are named Hermann Trophy semifinalists on Nov. 30 following United Soccer Coaches Division I All-America voting after the regular season. A final round of voting names three finalists on Dec. 15. The 2021 winner is announced on Jan. 7, 2022, in a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo.

Dias led the Herd in scoring with six goals and seven assists in the spring. The Brasilia, Brazil native accumulated an impressive haul of postseason individual awards. Along with being a semifinalist for the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, other national recognition included becoming Marshall's first, First Team All-American. Teammate Milo Yosef was a Second Team All-American in 2019. Dias was honored on the NCAA All-Tournament Team, finishing the postseason run with four assists as well as hitting the penalty kick winner in the shootout against No. 1 Clemson in the Sweet 16.

From Conference USA Dias was awarded the Player of the Year, Offensive MVP, Co-Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection.

Yosef and Jamil Roberts were named to the Watch List at the beginning of the spring season.
