MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Marshall volleyball team lost its match against No. 4 Pittsburgh on Friday in three sets (10-25, 13-25, 20-25) at the Morehead Invite. The Herd returns to the court Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Toledo Rockets for one more match in the Morehead Invite.

The Thundering Herd fall to 4-8. The Panthers improve to 9-0. Marshall's match against Toledo will not be live streamed, but it will feature LIVE STATS.

"We struggled getting started today, but continued to battle each set," Herd head coach Ari Aganus said. "It was a great match to learn and grow from. I'm excited to build off of the great things we did today."

Fifth-year senior Destiny Leon led the team with six kills and registered five total blocks. Leon's blocks streak is now 54-straight matches. Graduate Ciara Debell had five kills, seven digs, one ace and one block. Debell is now tied with Laura Der (2010-13) for sixth place all-time in team history with 1,226 career kills. Senior Macy McElhaney finished with four kills and one block. Junior Megan Taylor had two kills and two blocks.

Fifth-year senior setter Sydney Lostumo totaled 11 assists, five digs and one kill. Senior libero Sarah Schank finished with nine digs and four assists. Junior Essence Clerkley had one block. Junior Meagan Camden recorded one dig and one assist while freshman Brynn Brown tallied three digs.

The 4th-ranked Panthers led the first set from beginning to end to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, Marshall showed some fight as there were four ties and two lead changes. The Panthers regained the lead at 6-5 and held on for the rest of the frame to take a 2-0 lead.

The Herd battled more in the third set, trying to prevent the sweep. There was only one tie and one lead change, however Marshall was able to keep it close to try and have a chance. Pittsburgh moved it to match-point at 24-18. However, the Herd did not go away quietly scoring back-to-back points to close the gap to four. Debell's ace was Marshall's 20th point. The Panthers then closed it out with a block to end the match and earn the win.

Saturday's contest against the Toledo Rockets is the Herd's final non-conference match of the season. Marshall begins C-USA play Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, at No. 23 WKU.
