Ali Named FWAA Freshman All-American

Thundering Herd running back honored

DALLAS, Texas – Marshall running back Rasheen Ali was announced as an all-purpose selection on the 2021 Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America team on Monday.
 
The list includes players who were either redshirt freshmen, true freshmen, or freshmen playing in their second season via the NCAA's updated COVID eligibility rules as designated by their respective schools.
 
Ali finished with 140.9 all-purpose yards per game in 2021, the 10th-highest average nationally and the top mark in Conference USA. He also led the nation in total touchdowns (25), rushing touchdowns (23-tied), points scored (150) and points per game (11.5-tied). The league's coaches also tabbed him a first-team All-Conference USA pick.
 
For his efforts, the Cleveland, Ohio native was also named Marshall's Most Valuable Player at the program's postseason banquet.
 
Following his outstanding campaign, Ali finished with the following single-season rankings in the Thundering Herd's record book:

Most Touchdowns: 25 (Fourth)
Most Points: 150 (Fourth)
Most Points Per Game: 11.5 (Fifth)
Most Rushing Yards: 1,401 (Seventh)
Most Rushing Yards Per Game: 107.8 (Seventh)
Most All-Purpose Yards Per Game: 140.9 (10th)

Ali is Marshall's second FWAA Freshman All-America selection. Punter Tyler Williams also made the 2012 list.
