Herd Tennis Earns Dominant Win Over Eagles

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team (3-2) notched a victory, 6-1, over Eastern Michigan (0-2) in its first home match of the year, Friday evening at the 7827 Tennis Center.

"It was good to play at home," said Marshall head tennis coach John Mercer. "It felt like we started amped up and hyper on the court but settled into a rhythm. Once we did that I was happy with how we played. Our doubles were solid, all six players, and Liz (Stefancic) started us really well on court two."

The Herd took the point from doubles with Emma Vanderheyden and Liz Stefanic winning on court one, 6-2, coupled with Aisling McGrane and Gabrielle Clairotte finishing the set point, 6-1, on court three. Madi Ballow and Sophia Hurrion were leading on court two, 5-2, but did not finish.

Stefanic started the Herd on the front foot in singles by winning the first singles point on court two, 6-0, 6-2. Ballow took the next point, 6-4, 6-3, on court three with Vanderheyden completing the victory after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. McGrane and Clairotte rounded out the set wins for the Thundering Herd.
