Herd Tennis Hosts Pair of Duals this Weekend

MU set for matchups against Eastern Michigan Friday, Murray State Saturday
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team hosts Eastern Michigan on Friday and Murray State on Saturday for its first two home duals of the season this weekend.

The Herd split a pair of duals in Louisville, Kentucky, last weekend falling to the Louisville Cardinals, 4-3, and defeating the Bellarmine Knights, 6-1.

At UofL, the pairing of Aisling McGrane and Gabrielle Clairotte picked up a win in doubles on court three, 6-4.
Â
Emma Vanderheyden dropped just one game in a straight set victory on court one. Madi Ballow took her contest on court three and Sophia Hurrion took a three-set battle on court four.

The Thundering Herd swept the doubles competition against Bellarmine with Ballow and Hurrion winning their match 6-0 on court two, and the pairings of Vanderheyden/Liz Stefancic and Clairotte/McGrane taking courts one and three 6-4, respectively.

The Herd was dominant in singles seeing Stefancic, Ballow, Clairotte, and McGrane each win their respective matches in straight sets. Vanderheyden took her contest on court one over Ekaterina Tikhonko in a three sets after dropping the first set, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Vanderheyden was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan begins it season earlier in the day on Friday when it is set to play Murray State at Noon.

The Eagles return Luisa Pelayo and Emma-Lou Pommiers who both won a team-leading 14 matches last season.

Like Eastern Michigan, Murray State is opening the spring season this weekend.

Stasya Sharapova returns for her fifth season with the Racers. She won her 100th match in the fall and has played either one or two singles during the last four seasons.
