Marshall back into the top five
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's soccer team (7-1-2) moved up to two spots to fourth in Tuesday's (October 11) United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll after a pair of 3-1 wins this past week.
"It's been huge. I came here in 2018 and couldn't play since it was my redshirt year, but it was the last losing season we had," senior forward Milo Yosef said about seeing the team's progression and the rise in the rankings since he arrived in Huntington. "Coach Grassie did a perfect job in the recruitment process with everyone he got in here. With all players we've had, since 2019, into the championship season and in 2021, seeing them go on to the pros. Then us being ranked for the last three years and mainly in the top 15, its huge to see what coach has done here with the mentality he's building."
The Herd has been in the top 25 rankings for 156-consecutive weeks, appearing in every poll since Oct. 15, 2019.
Tuesday's rankings mark the 20th time in the Chris Grassie era Marshall has appeared in the United Soccer Coaches Top 10 and the 13th instance of the Herd earning a ranking of sixth or better.
"We're more than half way through the season with five games left. I'm looking forward to winning everything that we can. We love to play for trophies. There are three on the line and we want to win all three," Yosef said as the regular season is getting close to coming to an end.
No. 4 Marshall hosts league foe Old Dominion Saturday night (7:15 PM, ESPN+). The Herd currently sits alone in second in the Sun Belt league table with eight points.
Marshall has won three of the last four against the Monarchs, dating back to the 2018 season.
