Box Score
ATLANTA – The No. 6 Marshall University men's soccer team (7-2-3, 2-1-3 Sun Belt) played to a 1-1 draw in Atlanta on Wednesday night against the Georgia State Panthers (9-2-3, 2-1-2 Sun Belt).
"Hard fought match for sure," Herd men's soccer head coach Chris Grassie said after the contest. "The game got quite scrappy after we scored, and we didn't manage it very well for about 15 minutes. I thought other than that period, we did really well and created enough good chances to win it. Not the result we wanted, but we can definitely build from the performance."
The two sides played a scoreless first half. Junior Morris Duggan cleared the ball off the line for a save in the 28th minute followed by a save from graduate student goalkeeper Oliver Semmle in the 29th.
Semmle came up with a big save in the 48th minute to keep the Panthers off the board at the beginning of the second half.
30 seconds after redshirt senior Milo Yosef saw his shot saved by GSU keeper Gunther Rankenburg, junior Adam Aoumaich took the ball at midfield. The French forward dribbled past through the Georgia State defense and a fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box off the crossbar and into the back of the net in the 52nd minute. It marked Aoumaich's first goal of the season.
Semmle helped maintain the Marshall lead with saves in the 68th and 71st minutes. However, the Panthers tied match, 1-1, on a 72nd-minute goal by Jack Hilton-Jones.
Freshman Matthew Bell fired a pair of shots on goal in the final 10 minutes, but both attempts were saved as Semmle made a save in the 87th minute with the contest ending in a 1-1 draw.
