Strom, Vanderheyden Reach Doubles Quarterfinals at ITA Atlantic Regional

BLACKSBURG, Va. – With two wins on Saturday, the doubles pairing of freshman Johanna Strom and sophomore Emma Vanderheyden reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Atlantic Regional in Blacksburg, Virginia.

"Felt we had a very good day of singles and doubles," Herd tennis head coach John Mercer said. "We can really see a lot of the concepts we are teaching starting to take hold. I think everyone is excited and feeling good about their improvement. It takes a lot of hard work on and off the court if you want to compete at the Power-Five level and the team is really excited about putting in that work and achieving their goals."

Strom and Vanderheyden began the day with an 8-2 win over the Penn State team of Yvonna Zuffova/Carla Girbau in the round of 32 before defeating Virginia Tech's Semra Aksu and Ozlem Uslu 8-4 in the round of 16.

Juniors Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar reached the round of 16 via walkover, but fell to Penn State's Sofiya Chekhlystova and Olivia Dormer.

In consolation singles, both Vanderheyden and Clairotte took their matches in straight sets.
