Herd Men’s Basketball Kicks Off 2022-23 Season with Exhibition Against Charleston

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball team starts the 2022-23 season with an exhibition against the University of Charleston at the Cam Henderson Center on Friday.

The Herd returns 11 players from last season's roster and three newcomers. Among the returners are fifth-year senior Taevion Kinsey and redshirt senior Andrew Taylor.
 
Kinsey a guard from Columbus, Ohio, led Marshall and was fourth in C-USA with 19.1 points per game as he tallied 10 or more points in 30 of the 31 games he played last season, including 17 games of at least 20 points with two 30-point efforts. He tied his career-high 31 points against Rice on Jan. 15, 2022 to go with 10 assists and no turnovers for a double-double in the contest. Prior to season, he was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Preseason First-Team and to the 2023 Jerry West Award Watch List.
 
Taylor, a native from Corbin, Kentucky, averaged 14.2 points per game, second on Marshall, to go with 4.4 assists per game, fourth most in Conference USA, last season. He recorded three double-doubles last season and had a team-best 59 steals last season, 62nd most in the nation. He was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Preseason Third-Team.
 
The newcomers are led by junior transfer Kamdyn Curfman. Last season at VMI, Curfman averaged 15.7 points per game, 7th most in the Big South Conference, before transferring to Marshall at the conclusion of the season. The North Bethesda, Maryland, native made 117 three-pointers, second most in NCAA Division I men's basketball, during the 2021-22 campaign as he shot 39.3 percent from behind the arc. Curfman had 29 double-digit scoring efforts last season, including six games of 20 or more points. Curfman, like Taylor, was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Preseason Third-Team.
