Herd Men’s Basketball Downs Golden Eagles in Exhibition

Anochili-Killen, Handlogten record double-doubles
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University men's basketball took its opening exhibition from the University of Charleston Golden Eagles 92-66 on Friday night in the Cam Henderson Center.
"It was a bad start. We were lazy. We didn't get up into them defensively," Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said about the start of the contest. "It was a good win, but we have to be better."
Redshirt senior Andrew Taylor led all players with 29 points and six assists while grabbing six rebounds. The native of Corbin, Kentucky, shot 11-for-23 from the field as he made five of his eight three-point attempts.
Fifth-year senior Taevion Kinsey added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists in the victory.
Junior Obinna Anochili-Killen and freshman Micah Handlogten each recorded a double-double in the contest. While they both grabbed 10 rebounds each, Anochili-Killen tallied 14 points with Handlogten dropping 10 points.
Freshman Jacob Conner also reached double-figure points with 10 by making four of his five attempts from the field, including a pair of three pointers.
The Herd made 55.3 percent of its attempts from the field (21-for-38) in the first half as it led by nine at halftime, 47-36.
The second half saw Marshall hold UC to just 30 points with a 29.7 shooting percentage. The Green and White tallied 45 points in the last 20 minutes of play as a three-point bucket by junior Kamdyn Curfman at the buzzer gave it a 26-point lead, 92-66, its largest of the contest.
MU won the battle in the paint 52-30 and outscored the Golden Eagles 17-1 in fast break points.
