HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Behind three double-figure efforts, the Marshall University men's basketball team (1-1) captured a wire-to-wire win in its home opener on Monday night over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (1-2), 91-65, in the Cam Henderson Center.

"It was great to be back in The Cam. I thought it was a good crowd for a Monday night, but it can get better just like our team," Herd head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the game. "We want them to keep coming and our young men are going to give you everything they got."

In his 100th career start, fifth-year senior Taevion Kinsey had quite the night. The Columbus, Ohio, native went 13-for-19 from the field for a game-high 28 points while adding a game-high seven assists and three steals to his stat line. It was the 41st game of his career with 20 or more points.

Redshirt senior Andrew Taylor reached the 1,000-point plateau with 17 in the contest as he brought down six rebounds.

Junior Kamdyn Curfman rounded out a trio of student-athletes in double-figure scoring with 10 points as he made four of his seven shots.

Both redshirt freshman Wyatt Fricks and freshman Jacob Conner had seven points and eight rebounds in the win as freshman Micah Handlogten had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Herd quickly took the lead 39 seconds into the game on a Handlogten dunk and never looked back. It saw its first double-digit lead after a 10-0 run with eight points from Kinsey and two by Fricks that put the home team up 25-10 at the 9:47 mark of the first half.

Marshall took a 43-27 advantage into halftime.

MU eventually had its largest lead of 30 points, 91-61, after junior David Early made a three with about two minutes to go.

The Herd outrebounded the Golden Eagles 48-30 and dominated points in the paint 46-38.

Marshall went 39 of 79 from field for a 49.4 shooting percentage in the contest. It shot especially well in the second half making 55.6 percent (20-of-36) of its shots, including 50 percent (6-for-12) from behind the arc.
