Marshall took three matches in the contest
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University tennis team (5-5) lost its contest to the West Virginia Mountaineers, 5-2, on Friday afternoon.
Â
"Great performances by both Jutte (Van Hansewyck) and Emma (Vanderheyden) today. It was really good to see Jutte win a singles and a doubles match today. She played a relaxed, confident match," Marshall tennis head coach John Mercer said. "Credit to WVU. They had three or four matches where there was a point or two where you win those points, the match goes the other way. It was a good college match. A good, hard fought match. Hopefully we can get back on track tomorrow."
Â
In doubles, the pairing of Madi Ballow and Jutte Van Hansewyck took their doubles match on court two, 6-4, over Kendall Kovic and Tatiana Lipatova. However, the Mountaineers took the doubles point.
Â
Van Hansewyck continued her momentum into singles as she took down Camilla Bossi, 6-1, 6-3, on court five. Emma Vanderheyden then concluded singles with a three-set victory, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (1), over Ting-Pei Chang on court one after dropping the first set.
