Alleyne wins 400 meters, 4x400 takes second
FINAL RESULTS
BIRMINGHAM, Al. – Marshall's Mikah Alleyne won the 400 meters with a school-record time of 53.62 seconds on Sunday at the 2022 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was held at the Crossplex in Birmingham.
Â
The title was the program's first on the track at the C-USA Indoors and just its second overall there. Kristin Smith won the league's pentathlon title in 2009.
Â
Alleyne's time was the fastest 400-meter mark at the C-USA meet since 2018.
Â
Her school record was one of five for Marshall on the weekend. On Sunday, the Herd's 4x400 relay team of Ashonti Warner, Erica Murphy, Marlee Porter and Alleyne took second in a time of 3:44.64, more than a second faster than the previous school mark set in 2018.
Â
The quartet of Kylee Mastin, Erica Murphy, Astoria Beckett and Sydney Smith set a new school mark Saturday evening in the distance medley relay with a fifth-place time of 11:56.25.
Â
Abby Herring recorded a 10th-place finish in Sunday's mile run in 5:03.28. On Saturday, she set a school record in the qualifying heats with a time of 4:56.80.
Â
Smith was the Thundering Herd's top finisher (13th) in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:56.56, but set another school record in the process.
Â
Tyra Thomas took fourth for the Thundering Herd in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds.
Â
Fresh off her fourth-place finish in Saturday's weight throw, MaryAnn Adebayo took 15th in the shot put with a throw of 12.62 meters on Sunday.
Â
Takira Williams also took 15th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.57 seconds.
Â
In the team standings, the Thundering Herd posted a seventh-place team with 42 points.
