Herd Gets Four Wins Saturday at Winthrop Invite

Marshall back in action at WKU next weekend
RESULTS
ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Marshall track and field team won four times on Saturday, the final day of competition at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill.

The meet was held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Complex.

The Thundering Herd swept the podium in the 100 hurdles, led by Tyra Thomas, who won the event in 13.89 seconds. Ashonti Warner (13.94) and Krista Perry (14.22) took second and third. Those times are also currently the second, third and sixth-fastest marks in Conference USA this season.

Kylee Mastin (2:17.39) and Abby Herring (2:17.62) finished 1-2 in the 800 meters, while Takira Williams (11.67 meters) picked up another victory in the triple jump.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Itzel Santos, Erica Murphy, Marlee Porter and Jillian King won that event with a time of 3:58.74, the league's fifth-fastest time.

Rebecca Merritt also broke into C-USA's top five by placing second in the discus with a throw of 43.60 meters.

Murphy was Marshall's top finisher in the 400 meters, completing the race in 1:00.53 for sixth. MaryAnn Adebayo was also sixth in the shot put (12.66 meters).

Kalei Jordan placed ninth in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:02.38.

Raegan Hefner recorded a 21st place finish in the 100 meters (12.86 seconds).

The Thundering Herd is back in action next Friday and Saturday at WKU in the Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday.
