WKU Returns to Huntington for Senior Day Rematch

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – WKU's women's basketball team will be looking for revenge when it invades the Cam Henderson Center on Saturday afternoon for a return game against the Thundering Herd. Tip time is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

On Wednesday at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Marshall blasted the Lady Toppers 80-62 in a game the visitors led by as many as 28 early in the fourth period.

The Thundering Herd enters the game with a 14-12 overall record and 9-8 in Conference USA play. The Lady Toppers are 18-10 and 11-6 in the league.

Marshall has clinched the #5 East seed in next week's Conference USA Tournament in Frisco.

On Saturday, the Thundering Herd will honor its four seniors Kennedi Colclough, Aaliyah Dunham, Brianah Ferby and Lorelei Roper in a pregame ceremony.

Visiting Marshall outscored the WKU women's basketball team 27-8 in the third quarter and cruised to an 80-62 win Wednesday evening on Senior Night in Bowling Green's E.A. Diddle Arena.

The victory was Marshall's first at WKU in 11 tries.

Marshall's Savannah Wheeler and Western's Meral Abdelgawad came into the game tied for the league lead in scoring at 20 points per game. The Thundering Herd won that heads-up matchup too, as Wheeler outpaced the latter 27-17.

Also registering double-digits for the Herd was Brianah Ferby, whose 18 points put her over 1,000 for her career, and Aaliyah Dunham, who had 14 to go with five assists and three steals. Lorelei Roper recorded 10 rebounds, seven on the defensive end.

Abdelgawad led the Tops' scoring attack, while Hope Sivori hit four three-pointers for 12 points, and Jaylin Foster added a double-double effort of 10 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Abdelgawad also recorded four assists.

The Thundering Herd led by as many as eight (20-12) on a Colclough basket at the 2:16 mark of the first quarter, but WKU game back in the second period and grabbed a five-point advantage (32-27) on a pull-up jumper by Alexis Mead at the 4:20 mark.

Marshall came right back, though, and scored 17 of the half's final 18 points and took a 41-33 lead into the half.

The Herd put the game away in the third quarter, shooting 55.6 percent (10-for-18), while limiting the Tops to just a 2-for-13 clip (15.4 percent). Colclough's layup at the 6:38 mark capped a 19-0 run for the visitors, giving them a 53-33 lead.

MU took its biggest lead (70-42) on a driving layup by Dunham 48 seconds into the fourth quarter. The Tops attempted to rally, but drew no closer than 18 during the balance of the contest.

The Thundering Herd held a commanding 42-22 advantage on points in the paint and a 20-11 edge on points off turnovers. WKU, mostly due to Sivori's contribution, controlled the bench points stat (21-8).

Marshall led the game for 34 minutes, 38 seconds.
The Opponent
Meral Abdelgawad leads WKU in scoring (19.9), rebounding (7.1), steals (2.3-third in C-USA) and field goal percentage (54.5-second in C-USA). Alexis Mead's 3.4 assists and 38.4 percent three-point mark lead the team, as well. Jenna Walker is the team's best free throw shooter at 79.2 percent. Abdelgawad, who is also fifth in the league in minutes per game (34.5), and Marshall's Savannah Wheeler came into the week tied for the league lead in scoring. However, Wheeler outpaced the Cairo, Egypt native 27-17 during Wednesday's contest to pull ahead.

WKU leads the league in scoring (71.5) and steals (10.5), but are last in scoring defense (69.6) and defensive rebounding percentage (62.8).
